Duckies

Duckies

Duckies (Often referred to as fun yaks or inflatable canoes) are like an inflatable canoe seating two or three people. They can be paddled with a canoe or a kayak paddle. They sit close to the water and self bail so no need to keep emptying. They are very stable but in the event of capsizing they are easy to climb back into without having to go ashore. Because of the size of a ducky you sit much closer to the water so waves and stoppers feel much bigger and the whole experience is more like being in the water rather than on the water.

Ducky trips with active are available throughout Scotland. Our most popular rivers are the Aviemore ducky trips on the River Findhorn & River Spey in the Cairngorms National Park. In Perthshire we have rafting on the River Tay and in South West Scotland we raft the River Doon & River Nith.

Duckies are great fun for everyone; families and young people can enjoy the bounce and splash offered on grade 2 river trips while adult groups such as stag and hen parties may opt for the exhilarating experience of the Grade 3 waters of the river Findhorn or the River Nith. No previous experience is required.

Active offer Ducky trips in Scotland all year round although river conditions can vary with the seasons. The conditions are generally pleasant in summer with higher water levels normally experienced more in spring & autumn. Why not make a weekend of it and try one of our multi activity breaks for youth groups, family groups or Stag and Hen parties. This is a great way to try a variety of adventurous activities.

Weekend Breaks & activity holidays are based at Craigower Lodge in Newtonmore or at one of our partner hotels or hostels in the Cairngorms National Park or elsewhere in Scotland. We can even come to you if you have a large group and are not based nearby.
