Skier & Snowboarder Ability Guide

The easy to use chart at the bottom will help you to work out your Skiing/Snowboarding type/level. This guide helps us to ensure we set up your equipment correctly and safely for your ski/snowboard lesson. If you never or have very little ski / board experience you will be a type 1.

*Please note if you are a season pass holder for The Lecht or Cairngorm mountain, your ski lesson package price minus the pass is £75, please contact us before booking.  On the day conditions will determine which Ski resort in Scotland we will visit for the lesson.

Interested in the conditions before learning to ski/board? Check out our Facebook for photos of recent snowsports with our Aviemore ski school (winter season). From here can you easily see the current conditions.

Type 1

Skis/boards cautiously and prefer skiing at slower speeds. Happy on easy or moderate, Green or Blue slopes. Novice/cautious skiing/boarding at lighter release/retention settings (skis). Entry level individuals uncertain of their classification. Beginner ski/board lesson.

Type 2

Skiing/boarding more confidently at faster speeds. Preferring mixed terrain and steeper gradients, typically Blue or Red slopes. Average/moderate skiing/boarding at average release/retention settings (skis). Intermediate ski/board lesson.

Type 3

Aggressive, higher speed skiing/snowboarding on all runs, in all conditions and venturing off piste. Individuals who designate themselves type 3 must accept higher binding release/retention settings (skis). Advanced ski/snowboard lesson.
