The DofE Gold Residential week in Scotland involves spending 5 days and 4 nights away from home on a shared activity with people you’ve never met before. Active can provide this residential experience at it’s Cairngorms Adventure Centre in Newtonmore.
DofE Gold Residential Week
To complete the Residential section of your Gold DofE Award, you will need to spend 5 days and 4 nights away from home on a shared activity with people that you don’t already know. As a DofE Approved Activity Provider for Residentials, we are able to provide an unforgettable Gold DofE Residential experience at our outdoor centre, Cairngorms Adventure Centre in Newtonmore.
This is an exciting and fulfilling experience. It may be that you want to build on a talent you’ve developed in another section of your award, or to try something completely new such as learning to ski and snowboard. Or, why not join us for a multi activity week which includes a selection of fantastic outdoor adventure activities, such as white water rafting, rock climbing and canyoning?
Self-catered accommodation is provided in shared dorm rooms. Participants will have access to a shared kitchen with oven, hobs, microwave, fridge, freezer, utensils, crockery and cutlery. There is a supermarket only a short walk (five minutes) from the centre, where provisions can be picked up for the week. Bedding is provided, but towels and toiletries are not. The centre has a drying room so any wet kit and clothing can be dried overnight, ready for another day of adventure! The residentials start at 12:00 on day 1 at Cairngorms Adventure Centre in Newtonmore, and finishes at 16:00 on the final day (16:30 for the Snowsport Residentials).

If you’re looking for an exciting, fun-filled Gold DofE Residential from April to October, why not join one of our Multi Activity Residential weeks.
During the 5 days, you will take part in a number of outdoor adventure activities, such as Canoeing, Kayaking, White Water Rafting, Canyoning, Rock Climbing & Abseiling, Gorge Scrambling, Duckies and Stand Up Paddleboarding.
Transport to and from the venues is included in the price, and all technical / safety equipment is provided.

Snowsports Residential
Snowsports Gold DofE Residential Week
During the February half term holidays, we offer Gold DofE Snowsports residential weeks where you learn and develop in skiing & snowboarding. The price includes 4 nights self-catered accommodation, equipment rental and transport to and from the slopes for the ski and snowboard lessons. Lift passes are also included.
Participants should arrive by 12:00 on day 1 and we will head out for a winter walk. From day 2 to day 5 of the residential, we will provide 3 x full-day ski lessons and 1 x full-day snowboard lesson.
Kit / clothing that you will need to bring:
- Warm layers
- Ski goggles
- Hat, Gloves, Balaclava
- Waterproofs or ski jacket/trousers
