Our Gold Residential Adventure Course Weeks are the perfect opportunity to step outside your comfort zone, try something new and create unforgettable memories with a group of like-minded young people. DofE Gold Residential Week
Make your DofE Gold Residential week something special. Spend 5 days and 4 nights away in a beautiful Highland Lodge on a course packed with adventure and fun with likeminded people from around the country. Active Outdoor Pursuits provide residential experiences at its Cairngorms Adventure Centre, Craigower Lodge in the magnificent Cairngorms National Park.
During the 5 days, you will take part in many fun & Adventurous outdoor activities, such as Canoeing, Kayaking, White Water Rafting, Canyoning, Rock Climbing & Abseiling, Gorge Scrambling, Duckies and Stand Up Paddleboarding. On our winter snowsports weeks you can enjoy learning to ski or develop your skiing skills to new levels.
Active instructors are renowned for their warm and friendly approach to adventure. They love facilitating these courses and having the opportunity to see young adventurous adults from different parts of the country and different backgrounds coming together to enjoy each other’s company and form new friendships.
Self-catering accommodation is provided along with shared rooms. Participants will have access to a shared kitchen with oven, hobs, microwave, fridge, freezer, utensils, crockery and cutlery. There is a supermarket only a short walk (five minutes) from the centre, where provisions can be picked up for the week. Bedding is provided, but towels and toiletries are not. The centre has a drying room so any wet kit and clothing can be dried overnight, ready for another day of adventure! The residentials start at 1:30pm on day 1 at Craigower Lodge Outdoor Centre in Newtonmore and finishes in Newtonmore at 2:30pm on the final day.

Snowsports Residential
During the February half term holidays, join our Gold DofE Snowsports residential courses. These courses will give you a thorough introduction to skiing that will develop skills that you can take to any ski resort in the world. For those who can already ski, we will teach you new techniques that will take your skiing to the next level, build confidence and develop an understanding of what makes us better skiers.
The price includes 4 nights self-catered accommodation, equipment rental and transport to and from the slopes for the ski lessons. Lift passes are included in the price.
Participants should arrive by 13:30 on day 1. We begin with team-building activities and getting kit organised the week ahead. Skiing normally takes place at the Lecht Ski Centre where you step out of the bus straight onto the slopes.
February is generally the best month for Snowsports in Scotland, but if conditions are not favourable for skiing we offer an ‘activity guarantee’, which provides an outdoor adventure activity regardless of what the weather is doing. Examples of our alternative activities are white water rafting, paddlesports, winter walks, bothy adventures, rock climbing, abseiling etc – we are flexible and here to support you to make your Gold Residential a challenging, fun Scottish Winter adventure!
Kit / clothing that you will need to bring:
- Warm layers
- Ski goggles
- Warm hat
- Ski Gloves
- Balaclava / Buff
- Ski socks
- Waterproof hooded jacket and over-trousers or ski jacket & trouserss
On your departure day we return to the centre at around 2.00pm to give you time to get organised for your travels home.
Price includes self-catered shared-dorm accommodation, qualified instructors, transport to and from the activity venues, lift passes, and ski / boot / pole / helmet rental (or all technical / safety equipment for alternative activities).
