Duckies on the River Tay

Duckies on the River Tay

From: £69.00

Duckies or sit on top kayaks on the river Tay in Perthshire can be a great way to explore the river from Loch Tay down to Aberfeldy or from Aberfeldy down to Grantully with the grade three section of white water.

If Duckies are not suitable for the River Tay due to the weather or river levels for the day we may supplement this with sit on top kayaks for a more enjoyable or safer experience.

Duckies on the River Tay

Grade 3

Duckies on the River Tay in Perthshire – probably Scotland’s most popular white water venue and is home to the national white water slalom course at Grantully. The River Tay flows out of Loch Tay in the Central Highlands. This Duckies trip can start from Loch Tay itself or more commonly from Aberfeldy and is around about 6 miles paddling on the river. From here the Tay starts off quiet and pleasant giving you the opportunity to develop your skills on route, have some fun with some challenging and engaging games and admire the stunning scenery, hills and river. gradually builds to give many grade 2/3 rapids before finally reaching the grade 3 national slalom course at Grandtully which we paddle through to finish the trip off. This is the longest rapid on the river we raft and the biggest as well providing some great thrills and bouncy white water.

Duckies on the River Tay in Perthshire is suitable for families groups and adults.

  • The minimum age for Duckies on the Tay is 12 years old.
  • We supply all the technical equipment as part of your booking price – buoyancy aids, wetsuits and helmets.
  • What you need to bring is swim shorts to go over a wetsuit , an old pair of shoes you don’t mind getting wet, and a towel, warm clothing for before and after the activity.
  • We will try and take some photographs during the day if appropriate to do so and post these to Facebook after so you have access to them for free.

We can meet you at the venue, on route or at our main base and provide transport down to the river and will try and work around what is easiest for you as best we can.

When is best to go in Duckies on the Tay?

We provide Duckies sessions in Perthshire all year round on the river Tay. There will be more water normally during spring and autumn so the river may well be higher and more fast flowing. During Summer it is normally nicer sunnier weather with slightly lower river levels so when you book depends on what you want from the day.

We can provide Duckies on the Tay from Wed (Afternoon only from 1400hrs), Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays each week. If you don’t see the dates on our calendar you are after then just drop us a ring and we will be happy to help organise a trip to suit you if we can.

What is Duckies?

Duckies are smaller white water rafts and are one of the most adventurous fun activities you can take part in anywhere across Scotland. They are inflatable rafts which are made from highly durable Hypalon or PVC (ours are Hypalon) that are designed to go down the rivers and rapids safely while having a great day out. All of our Guides are Qualified as raft guides and are well aware of the lines and safety required on the river so you can rest assured you are in the best possible hands for your day.
