The Paddle UK Paddlesport Instructor Course is a 2-day assessment, designed for instructors running paddlesport taster/starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs, centres or other organisations in:

  • Very Sheltered Water environments
  • Craft deemed suitable for a first-time experience

You need to register first on the course with Paddle Scotland. On day 1 of the course there is an admin fee to be paid to the assessor.

Paddlesport Instructor Course

This Paddlesport Instructor Course is a 2 day training and assessment course provided in conjunction with Paddle Scotland by recognised Providers of the course. Broken down below will be the pre-requisites and recommendations and the methods of assessment. All boats and paddles can be provided by us but we ask candidates to please bring their own personal equipment like drysuits and bouyancy aids. If this is not possible then please let us know and we can make equipment available for you to borrow.

Prerequisites for the PSI

  • Minimum age of 14.
  • Paddlesport Safety and Rescue training or approved APL.
  • Full National Association Membership – you MUST let us know your candidate number, DOB, email and national governing body so we can book you on the course.
  •  In date valid course registration.

Paddlesport Instructor Course Additional Information

The Paddlesport Instructor Course is an entry level coaching qualification which will support you as an instructor/coach with practical skills like launching/landing, kitting up groups, activities, games, teaching and using mini-journeys to help clients get the most out of a day. You will be taught and assessed in how these sessions can be delivered in an enjoyable, safe and rewarding manner. 

This award is appropriate for very sheltered water environments and for craft deemed suitable for a first time paddle or beginner. 

During the course you will look at elements like personal and rescue skills, professional standards, group engagements, practical skills and games and methods of teaching.

You can present in a range of suitable craft including but not limited to: closed cockpit kayaks, sup, canoe and sit on top kayaks – please let us know in advance what craft you will present on.
