Scenic Ayrshire

Active Ayrshire’s base is set amidst the hills of the Southern Uplands of Scotland, around 14 miles from the sea.

In 1263, the Scots successfully drove off a Viking army in a skirmish known as the Battle of Largs. The remains of Turnberry Castle, which dates from around the 13th century, may have been the birthplace of Robert the Bruce. Turnberry is also famous for its golf course as is the other nearby town of Troon.

The Craigengillan Estate is only 12 miles from Ayr, which was established as a Royal Burgh in 1205.  Towards the south of the town is the birthplace of Scottish poet Robert Burns in the suburb of Alloway — and you might end up waxing lyrical yourself after a day canyoning or white water rafting on the River Nith with Active Outdoor Pursuits!
