The British Cycling Leadership Level 2 mountain bike assessment is a one day course. This consists for a practical days riding and a home paper. The practical day consists of leading sections of a pre planned journey. Those on assessment should demonstrate knowledge and understanding for group management, navigation and trail side repairs. The mountain bike leadership courses are focused on the aspects of leading a group in the outdoors on various terrain.
Normally there is a minimum consolidation of six weeks between training and assessment. The course is suitable for anyone who is working in the industry, or fort those looking to improve their skills as they have a personal interest in Mountain Biking.
The level 2 mountain bike assessment will look at all the following:
- planing and delivery of appropriate rides for your group
- leading techniques for effective group management
- map reading and navigation for a flowing journey
- management of accidents and emergency situations
- equipment set-up and trailside repairs
- core mountain bike techniques.
The level 2 mountain bike assessment day will be pre-planned by the course provider and is likely to include a ride of a t least 40km where candidates will each lead a section of 10km or more. The assessment leg should be done in a smooth fashion and flow along the route well.
Candidates booking on for assessment should have completed the Level 2 leadership training prior to booking the level 2 mountain bike assessment. For the award a valid first aid certificate and registration with British Cycling is required.
The appropriate equipment required for a mountain bike leader should be brought with you on the day and a suitable mountain bike in working condition.
