DofE Assessors Course

DofE Assessors Course – all expeditions must be assessed by an accredited assessor. This course prepares candidates for this role, ensure they know what to assess and in particular it looks at the twenty conditions.

“The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is so much more than a ‘pat on the back’ for completing a programme of activities. It is recognition of a person’s successful journey of self-discovery and development, renowned by employers and universities alike for the qualities young people have who’ve achieved a DofE Award”.

  • The DofE assessors course lasts one day and after it you should have the experience and knowledge to safely and efficiently assess DofE candidates in the many different methods of travel – walking, sea kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking etc…
  • You should be able to understand the 20 conditions required for a pass.
  • encourage and recognise positive aspects of the participants and record them correctly online.
  • Use and knowledge of the online sign off method and how to submit a report.

An assessor is needed for every single expedition, and is different to a supervisor which is required for many of the activities to ensure that the groups are safe (i.e. sea kayaking). You have to be 18 years or over to become an assessor and have the appropriate skills and understanding to be able to pass the course. Prior to the assessors course you will be emailed with DofE’s e-learning modules and inductions and if you are wishing to assess in wild country (gold expeditions) then an additional e-learning module for that as well. these must be completed prior to the course so you have the knowledge to attend the day.
